Steve Bernstein, Polychromatic #222-22-11, segmented vessel of maple, yellowheart, goncalo alves, rosewood, purpleheart and wenge, 14.5 inches diameter by 6.5 inches high. One-of-a-kind piece.
In his turned segmented work Steve aims to create pieces that capture your interest, while deceiving you about how the piece may have been made, even if you are also a woodworker or woodturner. He strives to develop a style that is uniquely and identifiably his own, inspired by other woodworkers, as well as artists in other media.
Using all natural colored woods in his segmented pieces, he typically finishes each piece by hand rubbing with two to three coats of Tung Oil.
Steve first developed his love and enthusiasm for woodworking in middle- and high school woodworking classes. He is self-taught (he's read a lot of books!) and has been working in his own shop since around 1989, and he's been turning since 2004.
